About Beaklet

A small way back
to writing.

We make writing instruments around the things that make people curious. A place. A colour. A detail that follows you home. Sometimes, that is all a thought needs to begin.

We looked at a nib.
Found a bird.

It started with a small resemblance. A bird’s beak and the nib of a writing instrument. Both sharp, deliberate little things. Once we noticed it, we kept seeing it.

Then we started thinking about everything a writing instrument has carried. Poems, letters, maps, names, sketches. Half-formed ideas that became something. Half-formed ideas that remained half-formed.

There was room for all of it.

We wanted to make that first moment of writing feel inviting again. So we built Beaklet around stories from cities, culture, colours and the odd little details people walk past.

A Beaklet could carry a story before you had written a word. What happened after that would be up to you.

The world came to him first.

We gave that curiosity a character.

A young Hornbill in the Sahyadris. A familiar tree. A small patch of sky. A beak with most of its story still ahead of it.

Then people began arriving in the forest around Dandeli. He started watching them.

A photographer from Mumbai kept chasing moments. A painter from Kyoto sat still long enough for a moment to find her. A historian from Athens saw a past inside a rock. The Hornbill had been using it as a seat.

A textile designer from Marrakech found patterns. A filmmaker from Miami followed movement. An architect from Santorini watched a few lines become a place people could gather.

They were all looking at the same forest. Somehow, they kept finding different things.

Each encounter left a little colour on the Hornbill’s beak. By the time they gathered at the festival in Dandeli, he carried a trace of every perspective. The people had begun learning from one another, too.

When they left, he looked beyond the forest.

Maybe it was time he saw their world.

Then there’s
what you notice.

Your Beaklet begins with one of our stories. Then it finds its way into yours.

A name in the margin. A sketch made while waiting. A line you wanted to remember. Over time, the Beaklet picks up the occasional mark and the page picks up a little of you.

That feels like a good life for a Beaklet.
